During this unfortunate time, most of us are staying at home with more time on our hands than usual. Why not take advantage of this extra time to unplug from the news a bit, and have some time to yourself, and practice those makeup trends you love so much.
Doing your makeup like a pro can seem intimidating, I know, especially if you’re watching every Youtube tutorial known to man. What skincare product should I use? And if you’re doing it right, you’re wondering, ‘What kind of skin do I even have?” The rabbit hole goes deep, ok.
It seems like there are a thousand steps to completing the perfect ‘be,’ right? Well, I’ve got a beauty tip for you, and it’s a simple one. YOU MUST PRACTICE!
As a licensed cosmetologist and for over ten years in the beauty industry, I’ve been able to keep up with trends and master my skills with lots of practice. No product, tool, or tutorial will give you instant ability to pull off what you see online. Professional makeup artists and influencers spend so much time practicing and mastering those makeup techniques you wish you could magically have overnight. You, too, can develop some of those techniques yourself with, yup, you guessed it, practice!
For example, if you’re a novice, pick two or three areas to start mastering, such as complexion (foundation), mascara, and lips. Foundation can be as simple as a tinted moisturizer or a pressed powder to give you an even base to start with; lips can be a beautiful gloss or a lip crayon (like the ones by Neutrogena). They provide a subtle wash of color and feels like a chapstick!
Once you feel you are comfortable with the first two or three areas, you can then maybe add in eye shadow, brows, and illuminators. A lot of social media influencers use three or more eye shadows to achieve one look, and that is their choice, but it’s certainly not a necessity. You can obtain a beautiful eye look with just one or two colors and still look fly. And illuminators are the shimmery products used on the high point of the cheeks to give that glowy/dewy skin look.
Once you are content with the previous products, THEN, you can challenge yourself more with lashes, concealer, and exploring blush (FYI: I LOVE blush).
Figure out a system that works best for you, so when you hit the streets after “The Great Quarantine” has ended, you can be camera-ready while being Corona-free lol….what? Too soon?
